Our Story
Mother: “The making of chai masala just happened. A really long time ago, my Choti Mamiji in Ajmer handed me a bottle of freshly made masala to be handed over to my Mom when I went to visit her next. ‘Your mother really likes it’ she mentioned. As conversations go, I had promptly asked her about the ingredients and quite as promptly forgot about it. Needless, to say the masala never reached Mom. It stayed in the fridge for a couple of years. I would take it out once a year, smell it ( it was heavenly) and meant to use it - well, I didn’t!
Then, my Mamiji passed away all of a sudden. I was in the fourth year of ANU can COOK, my Magic Masala and Salad Spice were doing well and I was ready for the next new... That’s when I realised I had something fantastic lying in the fridge...so took it out, literally took it apart and TEA~sra, the third in my repertoire was born.
The chai masala was a hit!
Daughter: Mum’s TEA~sra was getting eyeballs, I was home and one day over chai we came up with the idea of blending the masala with authentic Assam Tea and put it together in Tea bags! For me, it started coming together then. I mean we carry packed/ instant food when we travel to another country (I don’t but a lot of people do!) to find familiar in the unfamiliar. It spells comfort...home. If it could happen with food, why not TEA. So, this time around I carried a bit of ‘home’ to Spain in the form of home-made tea bags and Mum’s TEA~sra. Everytime, I had my TEA-sra tea, I was transported to Bareilly. I felt closer to home, so once I got back, I decided to work on it...we got cracking!
